I saw this article on the Huffington Post yesterday about the most exciting new iOS feature revealed at WWDC: Do Not Disturb. The article argued that “we actually have a life beyond our gadgets, and for all the good it does them to be wedded to our devices, every now and again we need to trade FaceTime for face-to-face time.” Engadget has a similar article about how this feature will let iOS users get more sleep.
Sorry guys, I agree that the feature is a big and needed improvement, but I disagree with your logic. Do not disturb is a big deal for making iOS a better gaming platform. It means that gamers don’t have to be bothered by text messages and phone calls when playing a game. It means that when you’re about to capture the point in N.O.V.A 3 multiplayer or about to launch the perfect shot in Shark Dash, your friends and family can’t interrupt you with emoticons and questions about what phone they should get next.
In the past, gamers never needed to worry about being interrupted by phone calls and text messages. Now iOS gamers will never have to again. Thanks Apple.
