Hey Gameloft, What’s Up With Gamepad Controllers?

If there’s one question we get asked by fans and mobile gamers more than any other, it’s about the new gamepads and controllers that have been coming out for iOS and Android devices. We make a lot of games here at Gameloft, many of them well-suited for console-style gamepad control. So where do we stand with the devices that are out now, and ones that may get announced in the future?MOGA-DH4

On the Android side of the fence, there have already been a number of controllers to hit the market, though the MOGA controllers by PowerA seem to be the dominant force right now. We have a long relationship with the MOGA team, and have optimized a number of our most popular titles for their Android-based devices (see list below). More recently, Samsung released a controller that pairs with their devices as well, allowing you to play all of the same games that you can with the MOGA.

The advent of controllers that work with Apple’s iOS devices is a newer development in the mobile gaming scene. The first two iPhone-compatible controllers out of the gate, the Logitech Power Shell and the MOGA ACE, both work with Dungeon Hunter 4 and Gangstar Vegas, and the Logitech device additionally supports Asphalt 8: Airborne. But those devices represent two different “flavors” of iOS compatible controllers, best described by Apple at HERE.

Logitech-a8-e1389057066299

That’s all fine and good, you say, but what about the future? As always, Gameloft remains dedicated to bringing the best quality gaming experiences to all of our titles for smartphones and tablets. And even though we can’t be too specific about upcoming updates or titles we haven’t announced yet, believe us when we say that we will have more announcements in the future and that we are looking forward to sharing them with you.

OK, we’ll give you one, but don’t tell anyone we told you this, OK? Coming in early 2014, Brothers in Arms: Sons of War will feature support for all four of the controllers we mentioned here. That’s pretty exciting no matter what platform you’re playing on!

Current list of Gameloft games that support third-party controllers:

Logitech Power Shell (iOS)

  • Asphalt 8: Airborne
  • Dungeon Hunter 4
  • Gangstar Vegas

MOGA ACE (iOS)

  • Dungeon Hunter 4
  • Gangstar Vegas

MOGA PRO and Samsung Gamepad (Android)

  • Asphalt 7
  • Asphalt 8
  • Dungeon Hunter 3
  • Gangstar Rio
  • GT Racing 2
  • Modern Combat 4
  • N.O.V.A.3
  • Six Guns
  • Wild Blood
  • Gangstar Vegas
  • Tank Battles
  • Blitz Brigade

Blitz Brigade Update Hits Android!

BB-Infographic-jpeg

Today is a great day.  You know why?  We launched a HUGE update for Blitz Brigade on Android!  This update includes a new skill system, new game modes, character features, weapons and more!  Like I said, this update is huge.  It’s exciting to see how well Blitz Brigade is doing and how much players are playing it now, more than ever.  Our team drew up this awesome infographic, which you can see above, and the stats on there are absolutely staggering.  In 2013, players captured 68,480,261 flags and spent 27,215,254 hours playing!  That’s jaw-dropping and we hope to see those numbers rise even more during 2014.

So, what are you waiting for?  Between leveling up your character skills, testing out all of the new weapons (20+) and capturing flags in the new Capture the Flag mode you’ve got a lot of playing to do!  See you in game folks!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

CA

Today we announced we will be making the official game for Marvel’s next hit, Captain America: The Winter Soldier!  I’m so hyped for this game and movie, you can’t even begin to comprehend my excitement levels.  I’ll try to contain myself for this blog post and I’ll do my best to make sure I don’t type in all caps.  I’ve been waiting since the first Captain America movie ended to see what Marvel had in store for the second movie and after seeing the trailer during the Super Bowl, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed!  It’s great to see Captain America back in action and it looks like the movie is packed with some great fights against the Winter Soldier.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out the movie trailer, fear not, because I included it below.  Definitely check it out!

Heroes of Order & Chaos Developer Q&A

Happy New Year folks!  For my first blog post of 2014 I wanted to bring you an update on what’s going down with Heroes of Order & Chaos.  Recently, our Game Community Manager Andreea took some of the popular questions on the HOC forums and sat down with Lead Designer mingming.  They talked about lots of possible future changes including a potential 1v1 map, fixing ranking issues, overall game balancing, new skins and more!  Check out a few of the answers below and make sure you head over to the Heroes of Order & Chaos forums for the full Q&A here:

HOC-Game-Dev-QAjpeg

Q: Are you considering adding a 1 vs 1 map? A: We’d like to add more maps and more modes to the game but we need to think of how many players would actually be interested in 1-on-1 matches and how it’s going to affect the game itself.  Actually, we have made some attempts to let players have a taste of this kind of competition with the new custom mode, which allows players to create a variety of games.  We are curious to see what will be players’ favorite setup in the custom game mode.

Q: What are you doing to combat the ranking abuses we have seen lately?

A: We are making some technical improvements on our reporting tools.  This means that we will start banning players much faster and harshly if we see misconduct.  We won’t be resetting the ranks, but we will introduce a different type of ranking in 2014.

Make sure that you head over to the forums for the rest of the interview.  Also, stay tuned for a Developer Diary blog about the Under Realms Map.  See you on the Rift!

Tank Battles Rolls Out!

So today I wanted to take some time to talk to you all about another great arcade title that we recently released worldwide.  That game is Tank Battles!  It’s an awesome arcade shooter that lets players play as and customize their own tank.  Tank Battles has got some great features that players can explore and I for one, am really excited to dig in and test the limits of my tank.

Tank Battles brings a lot to the table.  It offers both single player and multiplayer modes.  In single player, there are more than 80 levels with 3 challenges to complete for a perfect score.  Also, after beating the final boss, players will gain access to a Survival Mode, which lets players survive for as long as they can against endlessly spawning enemies.

TankBattles_screen_1136x640_EN_02

On the multiplayer side of things, players will get to take part in a free-for-all Death match.  Players will be able to join quick battles which find the first available room or can create new rooms for players to join.  Tankers will also be able to create custom battles that can be manually joined and will be able to exclusively challenge their friends.  I’m really excited for the second mode because I’m a competitive guy and it’ll be awesome to throw down against all of my buddies.

If this sounds like a game you might be interested in, head over to Google Play or the App Store and start downloading Tank Battles today!
